Requirement:

Web content does not restrict use of input modalities available on a platform except where the restriction is essential, required to ensure the security of the content, or required to respect user settings.
Guidance:
Techniques: WCAG currently only includes the following undocumented techniques for this success criterion:
  • Only using high-level, input-agnostic event handlers (focus, blur, click) in Javascript (operating systems/UAs fire these events for all input mechanisms).

Purpose

The purpose of this success criterion is to ensure that users are not restricted from using their preferred input method to control the content.

How to Meet

Authors must not design controls so that they only operate with a specific type of input.
