Landmarks

Landmarks are key locations in a publication that a user is likely to want to have quick access to. They include the table of contents, glossaries, bibliographies and other similar navigation and informative aids.

Both ARIA and EPUB define methods for expressing landmarks:

  • ARIA landmarks are expressed using the role attibute and only exist within the document they are defined in (see ARIA Landmarks for more information).

  • EPUB uses a special navigation aid in the navigation document to define where the landmarks are, as the landmarks are usually spread across many documents (see EPUB Landmarks for more information).
